Abstract: Background: Sago (Metroxylon sp) is one of the commodities of food containing carbohydrates, thus used as a staple food for several regions in Indonesia such as Maluku, Papua and Sulawesi in part. Sago can also be utilized as raw material for the food industry, among others, can be processed into food such as bagea, pearl sago, pastries, cakes, noodles, biscuits, crackers and noodles. Utilization of diverse causes sago require attention in terms of development and conservation. Saparua including one of the areas in the Maluku islands with sago fairly broad potential. There are 5 types of corn in the area will include sashes sago, sago Molat, makanaru sago, sago ihur, and sago rattan thorns. Methods: The study took place in February-March 2014 to explore the site and sample selected by proposive sampling. For each of the quantitative parameters such as height, length, width, using measuring tools such as rulers, meter roll while qualitative parameters such as shape, color can be observed visually. Results: Exploration conducted in February-March 2014 with the parameters of morphological characters on vegetative and generative organs as much as 70 characters. The results showed morphological appearance that varies on each variety. Visually, the character of morphological variation in vegetative organs are visible on the character of the stem height, surface, circumference, color. Character leaves have a variation in flexibility leaflets, leaflets bone flexibility, wide base of the frond, frond length, shape midrib, midrib dorsal stripe, midrib color, number of children, the length of the child, the upper surface. Morphological characters on the generative organs are visible varies in length and width flower stalk, flower diameter. Variation in fruit such as shape, number, and color while the seed is the color and weight. Conclusion: There was variation in morphological characters on the five varieties of corn in Saparua Island in the shape, size, color, appearance of each organ of both the stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds.
