Abstract:	The effect of different light color on carrageenan of red variant Kappaphycus alvarezii was studied in laboratorium. Red, yellow, green and blue color as treatment and white color as control were used in this experiment using randomised block design in three replications. The result showed that carrageenan tend to be high in the blue light (21,90 +- 4,36%) and the red light tend to be low (10,25 +- 2,96%). However, statistically there were no significant different growth rate among light color treatment (P =0,63 <0,05). Futher experiment of chromatic response of red variant K. alvarezii should be continued using better experiment facilities to get better result.
