Abstract: High population growth may cause concerning toward the over usage of fish resources to meet the need of people. Fish culture and catching on the sea are the activities to increase fish production. Therefore a system that can produce a quick and accurate data is needed in order to support the activities. The system is based on satellite to detect potential fishing area through long distance observation. Fish in the sea is affected by environmental conditions, among others is the presence of phytoplankton with their chlorophyll- a in the water. Remote sensing system can detect the presence of chlorophyll-a in the water as an indicator of fish abundance, both pelagic and demersal. Results from the system then will be mapping using Geographic Information System (GIS) and thus can be used by many people particularly fishers to improve their catching and their income.
