Abstract: This research was conducted to asses the effect of prenatal and postnatal photoperiod on the number ofspermatogenic cell layers in white rats (Rattus norvegicus L.). The experiment consists of two treatment factors which where arranged in factorial complete randomized design model (4 x 3) with three replication. The first factor was four lavel of photoperiods; (1) long photoperiod (16L – 8D), (2) intermediate photoperiod (14L – 10D), (3) short photoperiod (8T – 16G), dan (4) control (12T – 12G). The second factor was gestation periods at one week of age, two weeks of age, and three weeks of age. Photoperiod treatments were given for 58, 49, 42, 21, 14 and 7 days, using thirty-six female white rats. Illumination (L) were given daily with light intensity 100 ± 10 lux. The number of spermatogenic cell layers data were analysed with two-way ANOVA and DMRT. The result shower, that long and intermediate photoperiods during prenatal and postnatal and during prenatal increasedthe number of spermatogenic cell layers. It increased significant on the long photoperiod during prenatal and postnatal. The short photoperiod treatment either prenatal and postnatal or postnatal decreased the number of spermatogenic cell layers.
