| Abstract: | The aim of this research is to see the cohesion process within the Islamic and Christian communities, besides focusing also in the role of local institution in anticipating conflicts in Waihatu Village, Sub district of Kairatu, West Seram District. The method of this research is analysis descriptive with qualitative approach. The techniques of collecting data consist of direct observation, deep interview, as well as literatures and documents. Meanwhile, the informants consist of several local leaders, including religious leaders, intellectuals, administrator, people, and young people, who ever act as mediators in maintaining harmony and relationships in order to achieve social cohesion in the community. The techniques of data analysis is interactive analyse model, which compose of three main component such as data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Besides that, the technique of analysing also uses qualitative descriptive which is categorized into certain models with several theories to conclude the analysis. There are several theories used in this research, such as conflict theory, social cohesion theory, and theory of exchange. The result of this research shows that social cohesion between Islamic and Christian communities in Kairatu Village is based on moral feeling of the two communities, which derived from humanity values, peace and harmony values, and religious tolerance, and implemented through religious and community activities. In achieving social cohesion within communities, the role of social institution is also important to prevent potential conflicts. Therefore, the involvement of several elements of society such as local government, as well as religious and local leader, is important to form social cohesion in the village, as well as achieving harmony and prevent any conflict between the two communities. It can be seen through the team of sixteen which consists of eight people of each community, which are formed to collaborate on behalf of the two communities to maintain security, as well as preventing any issues which are created to destroy the society. |
