Abstract: As a district that is active in the construction and development of the region, the identification of the sector is a necessary condition that needs to be done to recognize the strength of the ability to be developed into a local basis. This study was conducted to identify which sector is a basic sector in Southwest Maluku district and whether the economic development that has resulted in a shift in the economic structure. The analytical method used in this research is the location quotient (LQ) to see which sectors that are leading sectors and shift share (SS) to see if there was a shift in the development of regional economic structures. The analysis showed that in year 2014 there were four leading sectors in Southwest Maluku district, namely agriculture, mining and quarrying, electricity and gas procurement, construction and wholesale and retail trade. SS index value indicates that there is a shift in the economic structure of Southwest Maluku district, where in 2010-2011 the growth effect Southwest Maluku district is smaller but in the period of 2013-2014 the growth effect of Southwest Maluku district increases and larger than the province.
