Abstract: Increased number of students, staff, and faculty led to the increasing activity of vehicle movement inside campus. This caused higher air and noise pollution that directly impact to the Brawijaya Universitys academic community. To reduce this impact, the idea of limiting usage of vehicle with a bicycle inside campus area, is a good solution. Based on the description, Brawijaya University expected to apply restrictions on private vehicles. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics and opportunities of a Brawijaya University academic community to choosing mode, between the bicycle-pedestrian or bicycle-shuttle bus, inside the Brawijaya University. Those data are collected with questionnaires, and analyzed with descriptive analysis method approach, to found out the characteristics of Brawijaya Universitys academic community, and Stated Preference Methods to analyzed the opportunities of a Brawijaya Universitys academic community, in choosing modes. The analysis result shows that the socio economic characteristics of 22-year-old academic community is (48.9%), as a colleger (64.34%), with a characteristic travel distances 250-500 m (54.78%), available sidewalks. (52.21%), and with perceptions to agreed the restrictions on vehicle motor (65% .44%), bicycle mode that selected (49.26%), shuttlebus (18.1%). Utility models of bicycle-pedestrian and bicycle-bus shuttle are USPD-UJK = 1.6411 -0.000797?X1 for (?X1) = attribute cost, USPD-UJK = 0.7675 -0.0437?X2 for (?X2) = attribute travel time USPD-UJK = 0.7572- 0.000374?X1 for (?X1) = attribute costs USPD-UJK = -0.6637+0.0465 ?X2 for (?X2) = attribute headwayTo use a bicycle-pedestrian the cost attribute are Rp.1000, Rp.2500,and Rp.3000 so the probability to use bicycles are 0.6093, 0.4130 and 0.3208. Based on the results of these probabilities can be interpreted that the increased cost of travel will decrease the probability of the use of bicycles. For advanced research related to the mode choice should be developed more in order to express the meaning of the attributes associated with the respondents that the research objectives to be achieved.
