| Abstract: | The objectives of this research were: 1) to study community views according to gender equality concept in the community of traditional Hutumuri village; and 2) to analyze the application of gender equality concept in the community of this village. Population of this research is the whole households in Dusun III (Sub-village of Hutumuri Village) which are indigenous resident. Samples were taken by simple random sampling as much as 20 percent of 158 households. In-depth interview method with key persons in this village was done in order to get complete information. The result of this research showed that community in Hutumuri village have positive views about gender equality concept. More than 50 percent of household wives are working wives with interval income between Rp. 500,000,- and Rp. 1,500,000,-/month in Hutumuri. The main reason which motivates household wives to work was to increase household income. On the other side, there were two main reasons that motivate the household wives not to work, namely: 1) difficult to get job; and 2) to raise children at home. Husband and wife have an equal right to decide in household, whereas decision about daily household finance is made dominantly by wife. Besides, decision maker to reject or to receive a certain job is the husband, especially husband who does not have a job yet. The husband participates also in doing domestic jobs although with the lower intensity than his wife. It means that distribution of role based on gender equality concept has been done well in Hutumuri village. |
