Abstract: Field experiment was conducted at irrigated lowland rice field, Buru district, which was aimed: 1) to know the performance of growth and grain yield of some superior soybean and mung bean varieties at wetland; and 2) to find out which soybean and mung bean variety is suitable for wetland for development. Research was undertaken from May to August 2006. Four superior soybean and mungbean varieties were used in the experiment, i.e. Kaba, Sinabung, Tanggamus and Ijen for soybean, and Kutilang, Sriti, Murai, and Kenari for mung bean. Results of experiment showed that the four superior soybeans varieties were significantly different for height and number of pods per plant, but not significant for number of seeds per pod. Kaba variety gave a good growth and grain yield, similar with yield of Sinabung, Ijen and the lowest yield is Tanggamus. It is suitable with the description of Tanggamus, where the agro-ecosystem for Tanggamus variety is acid dryland, while other varieties are for wetland. Mung bean variety which gave a good adaptation at wetland is Kutilang variety, followed by Sriti, Kenari, and Murai. Grain yield of mung bean is not significantly different with the description of the varities, i.e. Kutilang 1.90 t, Sriti 1.73 t, Kenari 1.47 t, and Murai 1.38 t ha-1. Kaba, Sinabung and Ijen varieties for soybean and Kutilang, Kenari and Sriti varieties for mung bean have potential for cultivation at irrigated wetland at Buru district after rice harvests at planting season I or planting season II with introduction of innovative technology.
