| Abstract: | This research aims to know the management system of sago traditional agro-forestry and its benefit for the society in Hatusua Village, by using Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method with Descriptive Analysis approach. Results of this research show that: 1) Management system of sago in Hatusua Village is still traditional, which is characterized by the nature of exploiting namely; exclude-ability, substractability and indivisibility, and also some rights, i.e ; the access rights, the organizing rights, the exclusive rights, and the transfer rights; 2) There are 3 technology types used in the management of sago traditional agro-forestry namely: i) traditional technology; ii) semi-traditional technology; and iii) mechanical technology; 3) Maanu represented the system of sharing holders in the form of sago starch (tumang) between the owner of traditional agroforestry and processor group; 4) Sago is still used by the society according to its function as a source of food, construction material, earnings resources, water resources, conservation function, cultural symbol, and the society identity; 5) The protection system which is effective in the village is; church sasi, village sasi and matakao sasi. Also, there are protections in the form of written and oral prohibition; and 6) Target of the management goal and successful development of sago natural resources are usually marked by 3 characters: i) useful in the long-term; ii) locally sustainable; and 3) having self-supporting system mechanism. |
