Abstract: The research was intended to study about the effects of maturity stage on seed viability and vigor of two red pepper varieties andto determine the suitability of fruit maturity to be used as seeds. A Completely Randomized Block Design was used with three replications separately. In this research, seeds of Thai-chi Red Pepper and Local Red Pepper were used. Samples of fruit maturity stages were: A (dark green, 50-60% mature), B (orange green, 60-70% mature), C (purple blemished red, 70-80% mature), D (shiny red, 80-90% mature), and E (wrinkled red, 100% mature).Based on the viability, uniformity of growth, germination index, seedling height, length of primary roots, and the number of roots, the best result was shown by fruit withshiny red maturity stage (D).
