Abstract: Coral reef ecosystem is a part of marine environment which has the highest species diversity and has been known for its beauty and uniqueness because of colourful organisms live within. Coral reef fishes are one of coral reef ecosystem component that often display attractive colours. Skin colours on fish are due to interaction between pigments (melanin, pteridine, carotenoid, guanine, and purine) and light in the water column in order to camouflage to avoid predator or in approaching prey, and self- declare, aposematism, and identity for addition. However, colourful coral reef fishes are due to natural selection process in colourful coral reef environment.
