Abstract: Indonesian is one of the archipelago country which have potential as land for cultivation of curcumas plant especially temu putih (Curcuma zedoaria L). The objective of this research was to find atsiri oil from temu putih with water extract as antibacterial agent. The bacteria were used Bacillus subtilis dan Staphylococcus epidermidis. Atsiri oil was found by distillation inhibiting B. subtilis and S. epidermidis. Staphylococcus epidermidis is a bacteria living naturaly on human skin and mucosa membrane cause the skin diseases, while B. subtilis is a bacteria contaminating food but does not cause toxication. Temu putih was the most active with minimum inhibitory on concentration (MIC) 500 mg/mL and still was not positive minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) on 2000 mg/mL. The atsiri oil was determined using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The main components of volatile oil isolated were camphene; 1-beta-pinene; mycrene; 1,8-cineole; camphor; beta elemene; bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-ol,1,7,7-trimethyl-,exo; borneol L; eremophilene; (+)calarene; valencene; beta-elemenone; germacrone and 2-ethoxy-6-ethyl-4,4,5-trimethyl-1,3-dioxa-4-sila-2-boracyclohex-5-ene. Temu putih will become alternative choice as skin medicine for people.
