Abstract:	The purpose of this research is to analyze the economic potentials of city and regency of Pekalongan during 2001-2008. The methods of analysis in this research are location quotien (LQ), trend of LQ, shift share, typology by sector, and difference test. The result indicates the difference between basic sector of the city and the regency. The basic sector of city is trade, hotel, and restaurant sector while agriculture is the basic sector in regency. Based on statistical analysis using t test or U test (Mann-Whitney test), there are differences of contribution on agricultural, industry, and trade, hotel and restaurant sectors between city and regency. The research gives the implication that governments of city and regency have to give more attention for developing and optimizing the basic sectors. Besides that, they have to develop the quality of facilities in order to improve comperation power and need to develop the interregional cooperation around the city and regency.
