Abstract: The present study dealt with the prevalence and intensity of the infection of ice-ice disease on Kappaphycus alvarezii cultured in Saparua Bay and its effect on biomass reduction. Sixty units thallus of K. alvarezii were taken randomly. The sizes of white thallus, thallus covered by epiphytes and the tendency of thallus color were observed visually then tabulated in Organismic Indices Table. The level of Ice-ice disease infection was collected using prevalence and intensity formula, subsequently the effect on reduction of biomass used t-test. The result show that hundred percent thalluses of K. alvarezii were infected by Ice-ice disease with the intensity of infection varied about 2-10 % or the rate of 5,88 %. The average biomass of K. alvarezii per unit thallus is about 1779±690 g with the reduction was approximately 27,50 % However, this biomass reduction was not significant statistically (P = 0,29 > 0,05). Several factors are thought to affect the infection rate and biomass reduction of K. alvarezii at Saparua Bay are discussed in this paper.
