Abstract: Amonia and nitrite are toxic nitrogenous on aquaculture organisms as it causes brown disease (methemoglobinemia) including crab broodstock. This experiment aimed to test the ability of different design of rearing facility of crab broodstock in reducing amonia and nitrite concentration. Crab broodstocks were reared in rearing facility consist of convensional design and modificated Qiao et al. (2010) design during 2 weeks. Sand substrate exchange once a week. This result found that higher supply of dissolved oxygen in modificated design can reduce amonia concentration in water and sand substrate whereas nitrite concentration just only in water This design also reduce density of Vibrio bacteria in sand substrate. These finding means that modificated design can improve the water quality of rearing environment of crab broodstock.
