Abstract: Farmer group is social organizations of farmer that play an important role in developing farmers' capacity to manage farming. The data showed that 82.71 percent of farmer groups in Ambon City were still in the bottom two classes of the four farmer group classes. This implied that the development of farmer groups in Ambon City had not gone well, although farmer groups were not classified as young groups. This paper aimed to provide thoughts on reorganizing farmer groups in Ambon City so that groups can play the role as it should be. This paper was an analysis of literature study presented in descriptive qualitative. The result of the analysis concluded that the reorganization of farmer groups in Ambon City is absolutely necessary and can be done through five efforts, namely: (1) reconstruct the existence of farmer groups, (2) reconstruct the membership and management of farmer groups, (3) structuring the distribution of agricultural extension agent, (4) Revive and preserve local wisdom, and (5) the government's seriousness in implementing Undang-Undang No.16/2006. These five efforts are expected to develop farmer groups into advanced and independent farmer groups as a vehicle for farmer to learn and work together.
