Abstract: The type and size of the hydrodynamic transmission are determined by its own characteristics. The characteristics of hydrodynamic transmission are the effect of the rotation ratio on power, moment, and efficiency. The effect of changes in load (brake) on the rotation and moment of hydrodynamic coupling was conducted in this study. Measurement of rotational forces acting on the lever arm on primary impellers (pumps) and secondary impellers (turbine) was carried out at various brake load values. For the values of the speed ratio obtained from 0 to 0.96, the value of Δω ranges from 100.4 to 3.6 rad/s, and the value of pump torque ranges from 200 rpm to 400 rpm. The pump rotation is greater than the turbine rotation, which indicates a slip on the fluid flow between the impeller and the turbine wheel. When the brake load is added, the rotating speed of the turbine impeller will slow down, so that when the speed ratio gets bigger, the turning moment will be smaller and reach zero at the rotation ratio i = ωt/ωp = 0.85. Then the moment value will have a negative sign after reaching the coupling point where the value of the turbine angular velocity reaches the value close to the pump's angular velocity.
