Abstract: Rhizoctonia is a soilborne pathogen that has broad host range. Other than as pathogen, Rhizoctonia (hypovirulent and non pathogenic) could be a biocontrol agent to pathogen plant diseases. Isolation and characterization Rhizoctonia from agriculture soil had been widely studied while the isolation and characterization of Rhizoctonia from Tusam merkusii forest soil had not been much studied. This research aimed to isolate and characterize Rhizoctonia from P. merkusii forest soil. The research methods were: 1) isolation Rhizoctonia from pine forest soil; 2) characterization of isolates morphology; 3) the isolates grouping based on anastomosing hyphal reaction; and 4) virulences test on host plants. The results showed that bait method was the most effective than other methods. The results of isolation using bait method were 21 isolates Rhizoctonia but only 5 isolates that had been identified. They were binucleate. They showed anastomose reaction differently. There was 1 isolate hypovirulent binucleate Rhizoctonia on cucumber, tomato, corn, pepper sprouts, and pine seedlings. Four isolates remained were virulent.
