Abstract: This research aimed to study the craftsmans characteristics and to analyze the relative efficiency level of sago local food agro-industry. The research samples were 102 agro-industry craftsmen. The respondents were then categorized into 40 decision making unit (DMU) based on the type of the products. The data analysis used DEA model. The study of craftsmans characteristics showed that most of them were in productive ages (35-44 years old) with relatively low education level (elementary school). The business duration was about 5-10 years. The skill sources were mostly from parents, in a family of 3-5 members, with salary (income) of about 1.6-2.5 millions. The relative efficiency analysis towards 40 sago agro-industry DMUs showed that the efficiency was 60% and the inefficiency was 40%. Each efficient DMU became a reference for the inefficient DMU, based on the suggested weight. Sago agro-industry has reach a good efficiency level for each DMU which was shown by average relative efficiency scale of 0.966. This value must be kept stable and there must be even more improvements on the DMU considered having the lower efficiency.
