Abstract: | Mungbean local genotypes from Yamdena island posses genetic potential that needs to be explored, including their tolerance to salinity stress. The objective of this study was to describe growth and yield responses, and the tolerance of several mung bean local genotypes at several salinity levels. Plant materials used consisted of local genotypes of mungbean (G1-G6) and one superior variety "Walet" (G7). Plant materials used constited of local genotypes of mung bean (G1-G6) and one superior variety "Walet" (G7). These genotypes were evaluated at five treatments of sea water concentrations (S1-S5). This research used randomized completely block design with three replicates, and Duncan Multiple Range Test. The result showed that mung bean genotypes interacted significantly with sea water concentrations on leaf number, leaf area (cm2), and dry weight of above-grown plant parts (g). Yield response variables could not satisfy statistical analysis. Growth responses of all genotypes varied for all variables at S1 sea water concentration G1, G2, G4, G5 genotypes and Walet variety (G7) showed higher leaf numbers per plant and more tolerance at S1 concentration. G1, G3, G4 and G5 genotypes showed larger leaf area, and G2 and G5 genotypes showed tolerance to salinity. G1, G3, G4 and G5 genotype showed higher dry weight of above-grown plant parts, and G1, G3, G4 and G7 showed tolerance to salinity. At the concentrations of S2-S4 all genotype were sensitive based on growth and yield variables. Responses of yield variables at S1 sea water concentration were show by drastically decrease in filled pod number per plant (80-90%), and seed weight per plant (77-90%) at all genotypes. |
