Abstract:	People's dependence on rice causes the rice consumption of local food is low and the consumption of rice is increase, and leads to the increased dependence on imported rice. This study aims to find out the level of rice consumption and factors that cause people's dependence on rice. This study used a descriptive statistical analysis approach, which is simple tabulation. Samples were taken using cluster sampling technique with a sample size of 90 households. The results showed that People in Nusaniwe District consume rice as much as 136.4 kg per capita per year. This figure shows that the dependence level of rice in the Nusaniwe district, Ambon City is significantly high. Factors that led to high consumption and the high level of rice dependence are public perception of rice as staple food, easy to obtain, satiate, tasty, easy to process, affordable prices, as well as a symbol of high social status. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the level of rice consumption in the Nusaniwe District, Ambon City is very high, and the public perception factors will cause people' dependence on rice.
