Abstract:	The objective of this study was determine the pattern of alternative conservation of Moa buffalo at Moa Island in Southwest Maluku regency, Maluku Province. The study was conducted from July to August 2012. The research material was 120 farmers as respondents. Research was carried out by survey with purposive sampling method. The results showed that the Moa buffalo has not been included yet as the endangered category, but it possible openly threatened due to sustainable commercial yet sources, except by arranging exploitation set. Conservation of Moa buffalo can be done by economic considerations of farmer, science and socio-cultural considerations. Alternative patterns of Moa buffalo conservation at Moa Island in Southwest Maluku district was based on the pattern of in-situ conservation with a major focus of the management of animal populations to conserve the natural properties of Moa buffalo breed.
