Abstract: Carriers for arbuscular mycorrhiza biofertilizer are usually made from inorganic material such as zeolite. Previous study have shown that rice charcoal has an excellent potential to be used as a carrier for arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF) biofertilizer. A glass house experiment was conducted to determine the effectiveness of rice charcoal as a carrier of AMF's inoculum on the productivity of Sorgum plants grown on soil originally from Kayu Ambon, Lembang, Westa Java. The experiment used completely randomized design with ten treatments factors: control (without AMF), AMF with Zeolite: 10 g, 20 g and 30 g, AMF with rice charcoal: 10 g, 20 g and 30 g, and the mixture of rice charcoal +zeolite (1:3) 10 g, 20 g, and 30 g. Results of experiment showed that application of medium that contains mixture of rice charcoal and zeolite had better effect on plant's yield. In other hand, the medium with zeolite alone had greater effect on Phosphorus uptake than the mixture of rice charcoal and zeolite. The rate of mixture of rice charcoal and zeolite that gave the highest root infection was 20 g pot-1, while the best effect on P uptake and yield of sorghum was 30 g pot-1. In general, the addition of rice charcoal into the medium of production of AMF had increased the quality of inoculum and had better economical value.
