Abstract: Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is a traditional herbal medicine commonly used for the treatment of mild infection in many countries. Despite its immunostimulatory properties to combat intracellular bacterial infection, the efficacy of garlic for the treatment of Listeriosis infection has not been studied especially in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of garlic extract on the survival Balb/C mice against L.monocytogenes infection. The design study was laboratory experimental study using 8-10 weeks of age female Balb/C mice. Forty eigth mice were adapted for 1 weeks, then were devided into 4 groups (K=control, P1, P2 and P3) which 12 mice each. Garlic extract with the dose of 1mg, 2mg and 4mg per day were administered orally to P1, P2 and P3 groups respectively for 14 days. On the 9th day, all mice of each group were intravenously once injected with 5 x 106 CFU of L.monocytogenes for the survival study along 21 day. It was demonstrated in this study that all dose variations of garlic extract could more increase percentages of survival rate of the mice treatment groups compared control (K) group that P1 (1mg/d) was 66.7%, P2 (2mg/d) and P3 (4mg/d) were 75%. Therefore, there was not significant between P1 compared control group (p=0,0542), but between P2 and P3 compared control group were significantly difference exact which p=0.0125 and p=0.0208 respectivelly. Garlic extract with the dose of 2 and 4mg per day could significantly increase the survival of Balb/C mice against Listeriosis.
