Abstract: The pulsatile fluid flow in a transverse grooved channel would becomes self-sustained oscillatory flow at certain critical Reynold number. The critical Reynold number where laminar unsteady flow changed to unsteady transitional one depends on grooves distances. The objective of this research is to analyze the effect of grooves distances toward the critical Reynold number and pressure drop. This research was done by implementing a closed square cross section channel, where the bottom surface of the channel was semicircle grooved. The frequency of flow oscillation measurement was done by setting up a resistance sensor that is Wheatstone bridge and a U manometer was used to measure the static pressure, the two measurement was done together at severals Reynold number. From the research result it is seen that the unsteady laminar flow resulting single frequency of vortex and the unsteady transitional one resulting three frequency of vortex. The critical Reynold number becomes larger when grooves distances increase that is for groove distance of 1/2 and 3/4 time its circumference is 700 while for grooves distances equal its circumference is 950. The largest vortex strength occurs at the smallest groove distance. Oscillating shear stress increase with the increase of Strouhal number. This phenomena indicated that highly transport momentum occurs as the Strouhal number increase which it is contributed to the vortex strength and fluid exchange.
