Abstract: S-35 C, is a low steel carbon type with 0,30% - 0,35% carbon composition, which has a low hardness. This matter can be overcome by changing the hardness of this steel through heat treatment process. Heat treatment method used in this experiment is pack carburizing method. Experiment results showed that with composition of 1 kg of carbon and 30% beef bones with 10 minutes holding time, there was 11,10 HRC number increased. With 15 minutes of holding time, 17,30 HRC number increased. HRC number increased by 23,58 on 20 minutes holding time, and on 25 minutes of holding time the hardness value increased till 30,04 HRC number. This experiment verified that the longer time was being held in a heat treatment process deliver a harder steel, and also prove that beef bones can be used as a catalist in pack carburizing proses.
