Abstract: Puddling, although a capital and energy intensive process, is practiced to achieve objectives such as weed control, ease of transplanting, and reduction of percolation losses of water and nutrients. Technology of rice production with non-puddled that will efficiently used of time, labors, and cost as well as efficient usage of water. The objectives of this research was to investigate the effects of two kinds of tillage systems (puddled and non-puddled), planting system (direct seeding and transplanting) and N fertilization (45, 90, and 135 kg ha-1 N) were applied three times on C/N ratio, soil N and N uptake by rice (Oryza sativa L.). This research was conducted on Inception in Waimital village, from October 2004 to February 2005. The result of the experiment showed that interaction effect between N fertilization and planting system on two tillage systems did not affect all variable observations. Nitrogen fertilization 135 kg ha-1 N was higher than 45 and 90 kg ha-1 N on N-NH4+ and concentration of N on plant tissue. Non-puddled system was higher on C/N ratio and N uptake by rice than puddled system on N fertilization to 135 kg ha-1 N. Transplanting system was higher than direct seeding on N-total as the result N fertilization 135 kg ha-1 N vs. 45 and 90 kg ha-1 N.
