Abstract: Persistence of herbicides is the length of time of herbicide remains active in the soil that influenced by soils organic matters content, volatilization, photo-decomposition, adsorption, leaching, microbial and, chemical degradation and uptake by plants. The objective of the research was to assess the persistence metolachlor at different soil organic matter content. The research was carried out in August to October 2012 at the Greenhouse of Agriculture Faculty Padjadjaran University. Completely randomized design two factors namely, herbicide doses (0.0, 0.75, 1.50, and 2.25 ai. kgha-1) and addition of organic matter (without the addition, the addition of 1/3 compost, 1/2the compost, 2/3 compost and compost) were used in the experiment. The results showed that the wet weight and dry weight of crops test were affected by herbicides and organic matter addition, persistence of herbicides was determined by the dose of herbicide and organic matter addition.
