Abstract: | The research was conducted in mangrove ecosystem at Waiheru village from August 2010 to January 2011. The objectives of the research were to identify gonado somatic index, reproduction season and reproduction peak season of Scylla serrata. It is expected that the result of this research contribute to the management of mangrove crab resources and their habitats. Sampling was applied random trap methods. Crab samples were classified into Gonado Index and calculated densities, whereas distribution of crab in every month was analyzed by using correspondent analysis. The result showed that Scylla serrata spawned (gonado index I-IV) in mangrove ecosystem in Waiheru village, even though the density was very low in this area. The reproduction seasons took place during the research periods (August-January), whereas the peak of reproduction season of Scylla serrata occurred in August and January. |
