| Abstract: | The resources of Selar spp in Ambon Island is very potential due to it is favorable characters for the local community of Ambon. Beside the affordable price, the quality of the flesh can hold on without ice treatments for several hours and contain high nutrition value. However, less information is known about the potency and the utilization of this fish resource, especially regarding the production trend and fishing efforts within the last ten years. This research was aimed to determine the fluctuation of fishing, production, and CPUE, as well as to analyze the potency and utilization of Selar spp. in Ambon Island. The data was collected between 2005 to 2014 through review on Fisheries and Marine Agency of Ambon City and verified through interview with several local fishermen. The utilized fishing gear were ring trawl, liftnet, gillnet, and standardized long line. Trend of CPUE was descriptively analyzed, while the Scaefer model was used to analyze MSY value (production) and FMSY (effort). The result showed that CPUE value was fluctuated and reached the peak on 2008. The MSY value was 3789 ton/year with Fmsy 11837 trips. Actual production of Selar spp. in Ambon was 2000 ton/year which showed that the utilization of this fish is bellow JBT or 80% of sustainable potency, therefore can still be developed. However, this research is expected to become the reference for management of Selar spp. in Ambon with still referring to standard obtained MSY Value and FMSY to support the sustainable utilization of this fish. |
