Abstract: Experimental studies conducted to investigate the effect of a flat plate with a characteristic length of heat transfer of natural convection. The study was conducted by varying the characteristic length (Le) at 0.1-0.5 m, with the heat load (Q *) = 400 W is constant and the temperature surrounding 28 oC. The study shows the increasing characteristic length (Le), the optimum heat transfer characteristics occurs at Le = 0.3 m and a minimum at Le = 0.1 m. increasing the characteristic length (Le) <0.3 m, the heat transfer characteristics of the accelerated namely; Rayleigh number (Ra) rose 4:13%, Nusselt number (Nu) rose 64.29%, convective coefficient (h) rose 79.14% and convevtion heat transfer rate (qconv) rose 46.92%.
