Abstract: South East Maluku waters are rich in natural marine resources, such as fishes (pelagic, and demersal) and shrimps, especially in Kei Kecil waters. Based on the kinds of fish to PNN Dumar. One of the effective ways to catch fish in South East Maluku waters is by using a fish aggregating device (FAD) called rumpon, there are two types of rumpon the first type is a deep sea rumpon deployed for pole and line and purse seine, gillnet, and troll line fisheries the second type for catching small pelagis. The research objectives are (1) to determine variability and catch composition of rumpon (2) to find the effectiveness of a rumpon on fish-catching process; and (3) to determine an effective fish-catching technology to be used around a rumpon. The study was conducted by 14 fish-catching trips using purse seine, gillnet and pancing tonda. The catch result at the unit became dominant that the catching method become more feasible and proper to be developed. In the meantime, using a bamboo rumpon was better compared to plastic drum rumpon ini the catch capacity. Therefore,a bamboo rumpon was feasible to be developed in South East Maluku waters.
