Abstract: Methanol extract of Cempedak (Artocarpus champeden) stem bark was screened for its antimalarial activity against chloroquine-sensitive and chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum according to an in-vitro testing procedure. The test was done in-vitro with non-synchronized cultures of 3D7 (chloroquine-sensitive) and G-2300 (chloroquine-resistant) strains of P. falciparum for 48 hours. The IC50 values found for the methanol extract were 4.230 μg/mL toward 3D7 strain, and 16.580 μg/mL toward G-2300 strain. At the same test condition, chloroquine has the IC50 of 0.003 μg/mL toward 3D7 strain.
