Abstract: Migration is closely associated with the development of an area. Migration is the movement of people from the area of origin to destination area. Migration decision is based on cost-benefit ratio associated to both regions. One of the areas mostly inhabited by the migrants is Waiheru Village Baguala District, Ambon City. Migrants who came to Waiheru Village were mostly from Bantaeng Regency, South Sulawesi Province. They do farming by utilizing leased land as vegetable farming land. This study aimed to determine: (1) push and pull factors causing migration, (2) the use of remittances by migrant families in the area of origin. Random sampling method was used to determine 20 samples of 100 head of families from total population of migrant farmers. The results showed that factors that drive migrants from Bantaeng to move and do farming in the Waiheru Village was lack of income obtained from work in the area of origin. Moreover, the limitation of jobs in the area of origin and unsupported geographical condition were the push factors of migrant farmers. Pull factors that drive migrants from Bantaeng decided to migrate to Waiheru Village were the availability of agricultural land, jobs opportunities, and the increasing of income as well as the invitation from friends and relatives who have previously migrated. Furthermore, the majority of remittances were used for investment, home renovation and savings that in general used to improve the family welfare.
