Abstract: Hypovirulent Binucleate Rhizoctonia (HBNR) is able to suppress fungi pathogens, like Rhizoctonia solani. The inhibition mechanisms are competition, parasitism, and resistance induction. The objective of experiment was to evaluate the effectivity of hypovirulent binucleate Rhizoctonia (HBNR) to suppress damping off caused by Rhizoctonia solani. Inhibition of R. solani was evaluated using antagonistic test of HBNR in vitro and inoculation of HBNR on mycorrhyzal and nonmycorrhyzal pine seedling with the different time of inoculation. The result showed that HBNR inhibited R. solani at average 9.58% on 4th days (in vitro). The application of HBNR as biocontrol agent suppressed damping off (R. solani) and was more effective than the application of mycorrhyzae alone on pine seedling (in vivo). Dual interaction between HBNR with mycorrhyzae was the most effective which suppressed seedlings mortality (0%) than other treatments, when HBNR inoculation time was 14th after planting seedlings. This is the first report of biocontrol of R. solani on pine (Pinus merkusii) by HBNR.
